The FHA is passing on this announcement from John Pehrson about the LUOA Annual Meeting May 9 because of the profound effect proposed development in the South Lake Union area will have on our neighborhoods. -- Bill
Members and Friends of LUOA,
We are planning our first Annual Meeting of LUOA for May 6, 2009, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Cascade People Center (see Google Map). The Cascade People Center is at the NW corner of Pontius Avenue and Thomas Street.
It is served by the following bus lines:
70 on Fairview Avenue
8 on Denny Way
66 or 25 on Eastlake Avenue
Our planned agenda will include:
1. The Board of Directors will give you a brief report on the progress made by LUOA since it's founding in June of 2008 and our plans for the future.
2. We plan to have two guest speakers to discuss briefly their perspective on the future of South Lake Union:
· Rick Hooper, City of Seattle, Department of Housing
· Marshall Foster, City of Seattle, Mayor's office specializing in land use and planning
3. We will end by holding our first Annual election of Directors.
Board Elections
Since the founding of LUOA, a founding board has managed the organization. That Founding Board includes:
John Pehrson, President
Kevin McCarthy, Vice President
David O'hara, Secretary
Lloyd Douglas, Treasurer
Diane Masson
Don Bennett
Tim Soerens
So as to stagger the terms of the Directors, Kevin McCarthy, David O'hara and Diane Masson will be serving the second year of a two-year term. The other four board positions (John Pehrson's, Lloyd Douglas', Don Bennett's and Tim Soerens') will be up for election at the annual meeting for a two-year term. These four have agreed to have their names put in nomination. We are encouraging you to offer additional nominations by email to contact@luoa.org. Please do so by May 1, 2009, with the agreement of the person being nominated to serve and a brief bio. We will hold the election and count the ballots at the Annual Meeting.
Tell Your Friends
Please share this invitation with you friends who are interested in the future planning of South Lake Union.
After the meeting a number of us will adjourn to the Southlake Grill for a social hour.
