Diana Foreman on Portage Bay hosted a meeting of Maggie Glowacki from DPD and seven members of the FHA's SMP Revision Subcommittee on the evening of December 10, 2008. The meeting was to give floating home residents a chance clarify and comment on changes to the code under consideration by DPD. The most explicit information available to the floating homes group remains the PowerPoint presentation by Glowacki at the 11/16/08 CAC meeting.
The notes attached summarize the meeting and were sent to DPD to create a public record of the meeting and the points that were made.
In brief, Glowacki reiterated her position that they intend to substantially revise the floating homes sections because "having two sets of standards, one for non-conforming and one for conforming floating homes was confusing."
Floating home residents responded that they did not consider the difference between conforming and non-conforming confusing at all. They pointed out that nearly any change in that direction would require either eliminating floating homes or cutting them back. Glowacki was given a set of photos illustrating tightly packed houseboats to support the point
Glowack also made it clear that DPD was determined to regulate floatation. Residents saw a number of problems with this because of the wide variety of floats and how the need to be maintained.
