The Floating Homes Association received this meeting announcement from the recently formed Lake Union Opportunity Alliance neighborhood group. This meeting is of interest to anyone concerned about the impact of density on our neighborhood. -- Bill
Crucial Meeting Wednesday, November 18
The crucial scoping meeting of the EIS process for the South Lake Union rezone has been scheduled by the city for Wednesday, November 19th, at 5:30PM in the South Lake Union Armory (860 Terry Ave.N). See event announcement for location details and map.
This is the meeting we have all been waiting for, and must seize this opportunity. It is our main chance to provide our input into the rezoning process. A large turn-out, whether or not anything is said by all attendees, is crucial to our cause. We hope to have 200-300 of our supporters present.
The most important thing about this meeting is that you come.
The second most important thing is the you provide public comment. We ask you to repeat with all of us in sequence the sentence in bold-face below. These are tallied at the meeting. Following this sentence, feel free to add whatever other point you wish to mention as suggested. Based on other such meetings, we believe we will each have about 2 minutes to speak in a heartfelt way.
Here is what we suggest. We need to be focused, succinct and repetitive. Please bring this to the meeting:
- I support the LUOA (lew-oh-ah) alternative and vision for the neighborhood. Alternatives #1 and #2 are unacceptable, and should not be studied.
Optional:
- I believe/feel that these factors are important (talk about what matters to you most here):
- No zoning change in Cascade
- Walkable neighborhood
- Environmentally sustainable development and growth<
- Create a neighborhood first, zoning second
- Adherence to the neighborhood plan
- Schools and family living concerns
- Any topic that you would like to address
After the meeting, there is also a 21 day comment period. We have not been provided instructions by the city on how to comment. As soon as we have this information we will pass it along.
For now, the most important thing you can do to help is to show up in large numbers to this meeting. Below is a copy of our alternative, our full presentation can be found on our website, http://www.luoa.org.
We'll see you there.
