From Tiff
In January the Seattle Police Department changed the boundaries of its precincts. For the houseboat community the most significant change is that south of Lynn Street will now be the West Precinct, no longer the East. This divides the Eastlake community into two precincts. Each SPD Precinct conducts monthly meetings to encourage ongoing communication with the neighborhoods they serve. Susan Jenkins has stepped up to represent the FHA at the East Precinct meetings, Kathy Kimball has volunteered to represent us at the North Precinct meetings and I will do my best to cover the West Precinct meetings. Thank you to Susan and Kathy for doing this for the good of our entire neighborhood. All are welcome at these meetings so if you are ever inspired to go get a hold of one of us and we will give you the date, time and place of the next meeting for your precinct.
From Giff:
Seattle Police Harbor Patrol Advisory Council: Your FHA Safety & Security Committee holds a permanent seat on the Advisory Council which in addition to the FHA, consists of law enforcement, USCG, shoreline businesses, and waterfront interests such as Kenmore Air and Argosy Tours. We meet bimonthly to discuss issues and solutions common to member interests. We are occasionally joined by Seattle Fire Department representatives. Meeting updates will be posted in this space every couple of months, especially those of interest to houseboaters.

Notes From Harbor Advisory Council, March 20, 2008
- "Homeland Security" funds are flowing into law enforcement agencies from the USCG down to local sheriff' departments in the form of equipment and training grants. SPD just received a 50/50 grant for a new 20' RIB SWAT team fast attack boat planned for the Harbor Patrol. (HS also was also a partial funding source of $4.3 million of $17.2 million total for SFD's upgrade of "Chief Seattle" and its two new fireboats, the 50 ft "Engine One" built in 2006 and the 108 ft "Leschi" built in 2007.) The US Coast Guard is being moved from USDOT jurisdiction to fall under Homeland Security.
- New Harbor Unit duty cycle with 7 overnight staff means at least 3 boats can be underway within 3 minutes 24/7, of which 2 can provide 5,000 GPM pumping capacity.
